Schecter Custom-4 Diamond Series Reviews 4

So I just started doing a cover band which covered everything from 80s metal to Lady Gaga dance tunes, I figured this bass would give me the modern edge with the classic P tone. Sadly it did not.

American Musical Supply offered a killer deal on this. When all was said and done this $500 bass was mine for just under $400. I've seen these around town at my local shops that stock Schecter.

It looked so punk rock with the black pickguard on an artic white body. I was looking forward to the pickup selection. There was a P-bass pickup in the neck and a humbucker in the bridge with a coil tap. Throw in 2 volume knobs and you've got a P-bass, a P/J, a MM tone, or a full on P/MM setup all in one bass.

The reason I immediately put this bass back up for sale was the weight and the fretboard radius. Unlike a Fender this bass had a very flat radius, causing me to have to REALLY dig in every note I played. This caused much strain on the outside of my hand. Next the weight was an issue. It had to be at least 11 pounds. Having that around my neck for 4 hours a night wasn't going to cut it. Hand, back and shoulder pain this thing had to go.

The features on this are impeccable for a sub $500 instrument; Tusq nut, Grover tuners, string thru, heavy bridge etc. Although the pickups offered plenty of options I was hitting a brick wall finding one tone I loved. It didn't growl like a P nor snap like a Musicman.

This bass looks cooler than cool and has all the hardware and upgrades to make a smoking axe, but sadly the sterile pickups and near flat radius neck sent this bass packing. Maybe you'll love it? But I highly suggest a try before you buy on this one.

I bought my bass at a local guitar center in San jose.. I got it for about 450 and a hard case.. worth every cent

Very nice sound to it.. really nice action on it for slapping to dixie land beats.. you can do anything with this bass. comes with gold hardware, EMG pickups standard.. really nice natural wood look, cant remember what strings I got with it.. but none the less its a very durable, good looking, hard playing axe.. I highly recommend a Custom 4 or any schecter bass/guitar
